Moms with cameras is a 3-4 hour in person class with 4 weeks of post-class online homework and support. It is designed specifically for moms (or anyone who identifies with that role) who want to take better photos of their kids. A DSLR or mirrorless camera is recommended, but by no means required. The first portion of the class is focused on the technical, but the second half is all about composition and capturing the moment. The best camera for you is the one that happens to be in your hand when a memory calls to be documented.

What we'll cover:
- Technical basics (exposure, ISO, shutter speed, aperture and camera modes)
- Finding the light
- Capturing the moment
- Improving composition
- Quick tips to better your images
What you get:
- 3-4 hour in-person class with other mamas
- Small group (5-12 moms) to allow plenty of time for questions and individual attention
- Private online group for discussion, sharing, and camaraderie
- 4 weeks of post-class homework, critiques and support (via the group)
- Access to our alumni group

The class is the most fun when it’s a group of friends or a group of random mamas, paired with wine or mimosas and snacks. Leave the kiddos at home and think of it as a girls’ night (or morning or afternoon) in! The best part is, you’ll leave with a better understanding of how to capture your kids just how they are right now.
I'm always looking for hosts. If you don't see a class that fits your needs, or you'd like to gather a group of friends for a private class, get in touch! Hosts can earn their classes for free! I'd love to work with you!
Testimonials
"The only regret that I have about Hannah’s photography class is not taking it earlier in my daughter’s life. I took Hannah’s class when my daughter was 14 months old, and in the first week after class I had more memorable photos than I had taken in her entire life up to that point."
-Aleks
"...those tips and tricks and useful bits of information were explained in such a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. I went home excited to test all of it out. This is where the class really exceeded my expectations! Hannah's weekly homework built upon skills and her critiques were thoughtful and extremely helpful. I feel like I can now confidently handle my camera and produce pictures that will be family treasures. A lifetime investment for sure."
-Virginia
Each of the following sets of images were taken before starting, and then as homework during a Moms with Cameras class by alumni, Alyssa, Aleks, Krista, Courtney, Sara and Emma.

FAQ
What if I have literally no idea what all of these buttons do?
Don't worry! I've got you! I'll help you narrow down which buttons are essential, and which you can pretty much ignore for now. We'll get into the nitty gritty of how to work your camera in a super accessible way. And the homework assignments will give you plenty of practice!
What if I don't have a "real" camera?
No worries! While the first portion of the class is focused on the technical, you'll still be able to use parts of it. And the second portion is all about light, capturing the moment and composition. All skills you can implement to take better pictures of your kids.
What is your photography background?
I spent my first two years in college studying fine arts, but figured I'd never use that...Fast-forward a few years and I became a self-taught photographer. I started my business in 2009, shooting families, weddings, headshots, whoever was willing to put themselves in front of my camera. Since then I've narrowed my focus a bit to families (both lifestyle and documentary), small businesses, and school portraits.
I've been teaching this class since 2014. I also offer an advanced level class, one-on-one mentoring, and occasionally even a retreat.
How much experience or prior education in photography do I need to have?
Zero. Bring your willingness to learn, your camera, your sense of humor, and we'll get this done!
What if I'm not technically a mom?
Anyone who resonates with the term "mom" in any way is welcome in my classes. This is a safe space.
What if I don't think I'll have time for homework?
I highly recommend taking the time to work through the homework assignments each week. Everything we talk about in class will be easier to learn when you actually get your hands on your camera. I also spend a lot of time on homework critiques each week to help further your growth. I want you to learn!
That being said, if you need to skip a week, no big deal! I'm not grading you, I promise!
What if I don't have a group to sign up with?
I often have hosts who open up their classes to moms that they don't know! And if not, I host one here at my home every now and then too. We'll get you into a class that works for you, even if you don't have a group to sign up with.
How much does it cost?
The class is $149 per participant and includes the in person portion of the class, as well as 4 weeks of homework and support after the class.
If you choose to host your own class (with at least 5 moms), you can earn your class for free. Get in touch if this is of interest to you!
Can I bring my kid(s) to the class?
Nope! The in person portion of the class is lots of me talking, you messing with your camera settings and taking notes and asking every single question you can think of. A kid-free zone is essential for us all to focus! Think of it as a Moms' Night In!
What if I want to host a class with just my friends?
Let's go! Reach out and we'll set something up. I need a minimum of 5 moms to run a class, and if you host, you can earn your class for free by gathering your friends!
Okay, you've got me. How do I sign up?
Current class offerings are listed below. If you don't see one that suits your needs, email me. I have a waitlist and will teach out of my home each time the list has enough moms!
